…I have very lately declined a very liberal proposal of Mr Dickens to write a story of some length for Household Words. Indeed I do not like writing a long story to be broken up into little bits in a serial publication; but even if I preferred this mode of publication I could not find time to prepare anything for the next twelvemonths.
